Overview

Legal counsel is expensive. The hourly rate of an attorney can be anywhere from $110 to $350! With LegalShield, $7.36 per pay period will provide you direct access to a dedicated law firm who can review and prepare legal documents, assist with personal legal matters such as speeding tickets, neighbor disputes and family related matters such as adoption.

The legal plan, administered by LegalShield, gives you direct access to a dedicated provider law firm for a wide range of personal legal matters including, but not limited to:

 

  • Estate planning: Wills, living wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives, probate
  • Real estate: Home sales, purchases, refinancing, foreclosures, property tax assessments
  • Landlord/tenant: For tenants—eviction, rights to belongings in rental home, refund of deposit, review of lease agreement 
  • Family law: Eldercare, adoption, guardianship, name change, juvenile matters, reproductive assistance, prenuptial agreements, divorce 
  • Consumer protection: Bankruptcy, billing disputes, tax audits, loan modifications, credit reports/repairs, etc.  
  • Traffic: Points violations, traffic tickets, accidents, license restoration, and property damage
  • Tax audit: Receive consultation and representation if audited on your personal tax returns
  • Advice and consultation: Phone consultations with your provider law firm for any personal legal issue, even pre-existing matters
  • Letters and phone calls on your behalf: A phone call or letter on law firm letterhead can help quickly resolve disputes before they escalate
  • Contract and document review: Your provider law firm will review personal documents 
  • 24/7 emergency access: Live access to a lawyer for urgent matters

  • Who is the provider?

    LegalShield has dedicated law firms in 50 U.S. states and four provinces in Canada. The lawyers have been with their respective law firm for an average of 22 years and have a range of experience. This allows them to advise members through a variety of everyday legal matters from family, auto/home and financial. All legal matters are handled 100% in network and there are no claim forms to fill out or call center to navigate through.

  • Who is covered?

    The LegalShield Plan covers the participant (employee), participant’s spouse, and dependent children under 26 years of age.
  • When can I enroll?

    As a new hire, you can enroll during your new hire enrollment period. Outside of your new hire enrollment period, enrollment is limited to a qualified life event or the voluntary open enrollment period.
  • After enrolling how can I start to use this benefit?

    LegalShield will send you a member number and instructions on how to create your account along with contact information for your dedicated provider law firm when your plan becomes effective. You will need this member number to create your LegalShield account on accounts.legalshield.com. You will be asked to create a username and password.

     

    Once you have created your account you will use your account login credentials to login to the mobile app. You can call your provider law firm directly for legal assistance and provide them with your member number or directly call them through the mobile app at the tap of a finger.

  • How do you download the LegalShield app?

    The LegalShield mobile app is available for download on both Apple and Android devices. Once downloaded you will be asked to login, to login you will use the account username and password you created when setting up your account at accounts.legalshield.com.
  • What are the features of the LegalShield app?

    The features of the LegalShield mobile app include:

  • How do I cancel or change my membership?

    You can only cancel your membership at your company’s next open enrollment.

    To make any of the below coverage changes, please call Member Services*.

    - Dependents
    - Names
    - Address, etc.

     

    *Please note a dependent cannot call in and make changes to coverage.

  • What happens to my coverage if I terminate employment?

    Upon termination, participants will receive information from LegalShield with options and instructions for continuing coverage directly with LegalShield. Coverage options and monthly costs will be the same as the current group plan and rate. If coverage is not continued, benefits will end 45 days after employment is terminated.
  • What is considered a legal emergency?

    The participant receives toll-free telephone access to the provider law firm on a 24 hour per day basis- by calling 877-825-3797 for the following covered emergencies:

     

    1. Anytime the participant is in the presence of a law enforcement officer that may detain him/her.
    2. Anytime the participant is in the presence of a law enforcement officer or agency representative who is attempting to take away the participant’s child(ren).
    3. If the participant is involved in an accident that results in bodily harm or physical injury.
    4. The participant is being served with a warrant.
